I WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD

The Full Story

As a passionate, creative individual who has been in the industry for over 17 years, I have a unique sense of style and storytelling that cannot be replicated. I have dedicated many years by going beyond my limits and I have refused to give up, no matter the cost. My determination to better myself is what drives me to be more than I am. Without film, I'm not Timothy Urso. Film is my passion and always has been. Making films is a part of my life that I can't imagine living without. I've made so many over the years that the experience has changed me in ways I never thought was possible. As an activist and a filmmaker, I make films that hit at the heart of people and make them think, and even learn. Everyone needs to know what's going on in the world today, and I want to show them. I have so much to offer to the world and I want everyone to show what I can do.

A lie to tell the truth. This is filmmaking. The art of making us feel that we're there.

MY CV

Films and Skills

May 2016 - May 2018

TURN THE SWITCH OFF

This is my Masters thesis film that was funded by myself and others and made with a skeleton crew. I was the director, executive producer, and screenwriter of the film. I oversaw all the creative aspects of the film, and made all the executive decisions, while still allowing my crew to put their own creativity to use. As a director, I encouraged improvisation, as I see it as a way to let the actors become the characters and make the dialogue more natural. The script was co-written by me, with the conception of the topic being an important story to tell, and I also did some additional editing to add more emotion that the editor, I felt, missed out on. There were so many preproduction issues that I faced, but I pushed through them full force and completed the film on time, despite what the odds were.

JUNE 2013

BROKEN

This is a film that I made in Miami. It was the first film I made in grad school with a full crew. I was the director, screenwriter, editor, and producer. Due to audio issues, I had to ADR some of the film, which was a challenge that I overcame. It is a film that is semi-autobiographical, so making this film meant a lot to me. It was quite successful and getting the right actors to express the emotions was vital. Casting was difficult, as the amount of actors in Miami is nowhere near that of Chicago. It was a challenge to direct because of the intense emotions that the film required, but it was a success. The right casting is something I strive for as a filmmaker.

April 2015

CHANGE

This is a film I made with a crew of 4. I was the director, producer, and screenwriter. Being the writer and director of this film was necessary to the success of it as it is about a subject that I am passionate about. I don't think anyone could have directed this film but me because I was so connected to the subject matter, as it was also meant to be a precursor to my Masters thesis. Directing the actors was an easy feat, as they were prepared and professional. I left some room for improvisation, which I always encourage, and the actors did not fail to deliver. From conception to post, it was a feat that I couldn't do without an excellent crew. The ability to work on a tight budget on a short schedule is a task that I can handle well.
